Cherry History

BlankeBaer started in the cherry business in 1965, which was about the same time the growers in Michigan began shaking cherries off the trees. This was when the Cherry Hydraulic Shaker (CHS) was invented.
The CHS consisted of two pieces of equipment that attached to the tree. The CHS vibrated the tree, which allowed cherries to fall off into canvas tote bins at the rear of the machines. As these tote bins became full, they were hauled to dumping stations. The cherries were then taken to the briners, who stored them.
